What Is a Dog Body Condition Score?
Body Condition Score, commonly called BCS, is a practical way to assess whether a dog is too thin, at an ideal body condition, overweight, or obese.
A commonly used veterinary system rates body condition from 1 to 9, with 5 generally considered ideal.
Dog Body Condition Score Guide
An ideal dog should have ribs that can be felt without excessive fat covering, a visible waist when viewed from above, and an abdominal tuck when viewed from the side.
Important:
Body condition should be assessed by looking and feeling the dog’s
body rather than relying on weight alone. Your veterinarian can
provide the most accurate assessment.
